It can be frustratingly uneven, but strong performances from a talented cast help Spoiler Alert stay on the right side of saccharine.

Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald Sometimes the tone is a little too cute but Showalter and his writers have a persuasive ability to defuse the looming threat of sentimentality with comedy. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 10, 2023 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Spoiler Alert is a delightfully effective melodrama, one that pulls few punches and isn’t afraid of wearing a plethora of emotions out in the open for all to see. Rated: 3/4 Dec 12, 2022 Full Review Katie Rife RogerEbert.com This is a nice film. A sweet film. A film you can watch with your mother-in-law. Rated: 3/4 Dec 9, 2022 Full Review Mark Williams Radio Times This could easily have become a cynical and manipulative tear-jerker. However, director Michael Showalter nimbly avoids mawkishness in much the same way he did with The Big Sick, and the result is both tongue-in-cheek and touching. Rated: 3/5 Apr 4, 2024 Full Review Maxance Vincent InSession Film Sure, it’s an amazingly conventional biopic, going through the ups and downs of Michael’s time with Kit. But it’s also increasingly earnest. Rated: B+ Mar 6, 2024 Full Review Dave Giannini InSession Film Jim Parsons, in a lead role, truly surprised me with his range. Plus, the film really takes its time ge.tting to all the sadness. You learn to love this couple through their trials and tribulations and it is wildly effective. When at least 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive, it is considered Fresh and a red tomato is displayed. Rotten score. When less than 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive, it is considered Rotten and a green splat is displayed.
A review aggregator is a website that collects reviews of products and services. Rotten Tomatoes collects film and TV reviews from critics who publish at outlets worldwide. These reviews are rated either Fresh or Rotten, which contributes to a film or TV show's Tomatometer score. Learn more about the Tomatometer HERE.
Citizen Kane (1941), starring and directed by Orson Welles, has topped several international polls, including five consecutive decades at number 1 in the British Film Institute's Sight and Sound decennial poll of critics. Some surveys focus on all films, while others focus on a particular genre or country.
Only Murders in the Building season 1 has the most reviews on its perfect 100% score. The collective opinions of 107 critics puts it ahead of all other 100% seasons — the more critics' opinions weighed, the more valuable that perfect score is.
On the film review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, films that every surveyed critic considered bad have a 0% rating. As of 2023, only 40 films with more than 20 reviews have received this rating.
A red tomato means the movie received positive reviews. A splattered green tomato means the movies has been negatively reviewed. The popcorn images are from Flixster, the full popcorn container means the audience generally liked the movie.
Rotten Tomatoes is now owned by Fandango Media, and it uses Fandango's movie ticket purchase system so that users can purchase movie tickets directly from its site. So, some of Rotten Tomatoes revenues also come from a fee it collects for each online ticket purchase.
The 99% Club: You'll find it, way past 98% on the Tomatometer, but just before 100%. Inside, a coterie of cinema's practically-finest, movies promising an experience beyond most others – movies that are almost perfect.
So when a movie such as “Black Panther” gets a certified “fresh” 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, we interpret it as a film that is near perfection, while a film such as last year's “The Emoji Movie” that lands around 9 percent, must be a steaming pile of garbage.
