I re-watched the match today, in full. Every England player was so much better than last night. I can't believe the difference, completely different team! If only I'd known the result before the match.

And then there are converted critics like anonymous here [please include your name]. You know, I often wondered if this might be the case. Watching England during this Euros, it feels as if something good could be coming with all the possession they generate, but it never quite gets there. When you know where it is heading, clearly the element of frustration is lessened somewhat...

Jude Bellingham has achieved so much in his football career for someone that is so young.

The 21-year-old dragged England to extra-time Sunday's Euro 2024 last-16 win over Slovakia with an excellent bicycle kick and adds another piece to this season’s highlights reel that includes a Champions League medal and La Liga title.

Many elite athletes have spoken about how they use external issues or ideas in their head to motivate them to continue to perform at a high level.

There are many stories about Cristiano Ronaldo pushing team-mates to match his training levels and Michael Jordan in the Netflix documentary ‘The Last Dance’ continually mentions how he would use things not in his control to drive him to perform at his limit.

It seems that Bellingham is no different to those iconic athletes.

During the post-match news conference Bellingham said it was nice to "give a bit back" to people who had been speaking "rubbish" about him and England.

The Real Madrid midfielder also runs his own social media and his post on Instagram after the match includes a picture of a section of a famous speech from former United States President Theodore Roosevelt.

"The Man in the Arena" starts by saying "it is not the critic who counts" and is basically saying the person performing only has to worry about that and not those speaking about the performance.

Jude Bellingham is definitely doing that.

My team selection for the Switzerland quarter-final: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Konsa; Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Mainoo, Saka; Bellingham, Foden; Kane. This switch in formation allows Bellingham and Foden to play centrally. Alexander-Arnold and Saka can provide the width, getting forward knowing that they have the defensive security of three at the back and two holding midfielders. But we all know that Gareth won't make wholesale changes.

A message for Gareth Southgate - nobody is doubting the team's spirit, desire or will to win. What we are all doubting are your tactics and team selection. It's very clearly not working properly, so now is the time to prove why you are the England manager and innovate, be creative and set this team up so they can be successful like EVERYONE wants them to be.

Some more non-Euros news for you...

Aston Villa have completed the double signing of Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus for 22m euros (£18.6m).

The Italian club say English forward Iling-Junior, 20, has joined for a fee of 14m euros (£11.8m) plus 3m euros (£2.5m) in possible add-ons.

Argentine midfielder Barrenechea, 23, has cost 8m euros (£6.7m) plus 3m euros in add-ons.

The pair join a day after Douglas Luiz signed for Juventus from Villa.

    The 26-year-old Brazilian signed a five-year deal worth £42.35m.

Euro 24 organisers: action needed now! If England progress further at Euro 24 we need to ensure that the celebrations at full-time are not scarred again by the stadium DJ playing ‘plastic songs’ for our fans to sing along to. England have the best, most inventive vocal support at the tournament and don’t need artificial help to create a genuine atmosphere. Last night, when the occasion demanded ‘Hey Jude’ (which for obvious reasons has become one of the fans anthems of the moment) or ‘The Great Escape’, to be sung at full volume by the assembled masses, yet again we got American pop associated with NFL games. Don’t get me wrong, I love Neil Diamond and ‘Sweet Caroline’ on the right occasion but...the epic conclusion of an England game is not that moment. So spread the word now, let’s get Gareth on side quickly and ensure that when we win next Saturday, our fans can "sing their hearts for the lads", without involving some awful backing track.

On getting the win: "It was a lot of relief, but emotion - you know how passionateI am.

Tottenham are closing in on a move for Leeds midfielder Archie Gray, worth between £30m to £40m, with defender Joe Rodon moving the other way.

The 18-year-old is expected to have a medical at Spurs' training ground after agreeing to a long-term deal in North London.

Spurs look to have taken Gray from under the nose of London rivals Brentford, who also had the youngster ready for a medical at their training ground, only to see their bid of a similar value rejected on Sunday by Leeds over payment structure and add-ons.

The sale is believed to be enough to make Leeds compliant with profit and sustainability rules after their defeat in the Championship play-off final to Southampton cost them promotion.

The England Under-21 player, who also qualifies for Scotland, also reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

We might be in the middle of a thrilling/tense/umderwhelming (delete as appropriate) European Championship but the new Premier League season is edging closer.

Clubs are starting to return for pre-season training and that means a string of press conferences involving new managers.

One of them is West Ham's new boss Julen Lopetegui.

The former Real Madrid and Spain chief was supposed to be in charge of Wolves last term but quit just days before the campaign began.

Now he is getting ready to replace David Moyes at the London Stadium.

Lopetegui and Hammers technical director Tim Steidten will be speaking to the media at about 1330 BST.

England manager Gareth Southgate has had to deal with some heavy criticism during Euro 2024; from the players he has chosen and the tactics adopted to changes he's made - or not made - during games and the subsequent results.

But while acknowledging his own desire to see improvements in all aspects, the Three Lions boss sounded a defiant tone after watching his side's thrilling comeback in their last-16 victory over Slovakia.

"We want to be better, I'm not going to hide from that," he said. "But the spirit and the character was there for everybody to see and we are still in there fighting."

It really can't be overstated that the best of England's performances in these Euros (minus the first 35 minutes) have happened with significant changes to the starting line-up. Isn't it time to start with the team that performs best?

I am one of the most optimistic supporters there is...and I am a Boro fan! I will admit I lost all hope from about 94 minutes, and then one of the most iconic moments in England's footballing history happened, and I was flooded with belief again. Hey Jude, you took a sad team and made it better…
