One of the most notable sports anime of the last ten years is definitely Kuroko no Basket. A manga series that got its anime version after it ended in 2012, Kuroko no Basket “shipped out” numerous content – OVAs, movies, anime, specials, added segments, and more. The story about high school basketball in Japan became popular with the anime Slam Dunk. After years of other sports anime dominating the atmosphere, Kuroko no Basket attracted a new audience. It follows the story of the high school basketball team trying to make the prestigious final tournament, Interhigh.
The story is told from the Seirin High perspective, specifically, the Phantom Sixth Man and former Generation of Miracles teammate Kuroko Tetsuya. Kuroko is on a quest to prove that talent cannot be everything in sports and that love for basketball and teamwork will prevail on a journey to being the best. The boy becomes “a shadow” to Kagami Taiga, who is all but a calm person. Throughout the anime, Kuroko, Kagami, and Seirin High need to find a way to beat the talented Generation of Miracles, who became complacent and full of themselves and disbanded after becoming the best middle school basketball team in the country and bringing their love of basketball back.

Suppose we include every single special, OVA, film, and other canon content for Kuroko no Basket. The best way to watch Kuroko no Basuke is definitely in chronological order. Despite the anime being mostly in order by release date, Kuroko no Basuke provided us with many specials and OVAs that add to Kuroko’s storyline.
In the end, Kuroko no Basket doesn’t suffer from watching specials or OVAs in the middle of the anime seasons since the content adds to the already rich storyline of the high school basketball prodigies. Chronological watch order is the best and flourishing.
Kuroko no Basket watch order (chronologically)
1. Kuroko no Basket Season 1 (Episodes 1-13)
The series starts with introducing the main characters in Kuroko no Basket anime and mainly follows Seirin Highschool, which is fairly new in the high school basketball world. Kuroko Tetsuya, the former sixth man of the legendary Generation of Miracles Teiko Middle School, joins Seirin to find someone who shares his love of basketball.
Enter Kagami Taiga, an emotional, kind of dumb, but good-hearted freshman who just moved back to Japan from the U.S. He has an immense passion for basketball and raw talent that needs polishing. Kuroko sees Kagami’s determination and love for basketball and his teammates and vows to lead Seirin High School to the title of the best high school basketball team in the country. Moreover, Kuroko sees that if he and Kagami beat his former talented Teiko teammates, the Generation of Miracles will find the passion for basketball once again.
The Light and Shadow of Seirin team’s first challenge is Kaijo High, where Kise Ryouta enrolled and saw firsthand how talented the members of Generation of Miracles are.
2. Kuroko no Basket: Baka ja Katenai no yo! – OVA
Considered an episode 13.5, the OVA “Idiots Can’t Win” follows the team coach, Aida Riko, who is checking her players’ midterm results. If one of them places in the bottom 100 of their year, they won’t be able to participate in finals.
Of course, Kagami has atrocious results, and the Seirin team and his friends help him get a better final product. This OVA is as long as the usual Kuroko no Basket episode (around 20 minutes) and is considered a filler of the franchise.
3. Kuroko no Basket Season 1 (Episodes 14-22)
The second part of season one sees the Light and Shadow with the rest of the Seirin, trying to beat the biggest opponent yet – Tōō Academy, where the ace of the Generation of Miracles, Aomine Daiki, plays.
They prove to be a really tough opponent – Seirin loses, and the team drops out of the Interhigh tournament. This period marks the first obstacle for Kuroko and Kagami, who don’t believe they can beat the Generation of Miracles. Despite the loss, Aomine sees that he has a new rival in Kagami, who can motivate him and push him to play basketball with a passion.
Kagami and Kuroko are not on good terms in the second half of season one, but one of the founders of the basketball club and former star of the team shows the Light and Shadow that they can achieve whatever they want with their love for basketball, and team play.
4. Kuroko no Basket: Tip Off – Special – Episode 22.5
Another bonus episode in this watch order is episode 22.5, after the first season of Kuroko no Basket. This time it follows Kise and him joining the Teiko Middle School basketball team. Before being a member of the Generation of Miracles, Kise was modeling and going through every sports club available – his natural talent in any sport comes from the ability to replicate others’ skills easily.
However, when he sees Aomine Daiki play with his teammates, he decides that he needs to play basketball and be good as the Teiko Ace. Kuroko is set to be Kise’s mentor – the Copy Cat doesn’t believe Kuroko is fit to play with their team. Eventually, Kise realizes that Kuroko is an invaluable member of the team and the glue that keeps them together.
5. Kuroko no Basket Season 1 (Episodes 23-25)
After the small filler, the last two episodes show that Interhigh is in full swing. Former teammates and members of Generation of Miracles, Kise and Aomine, play against each other, and Kuroko and Kagami truly realize the power the talented bunch has. The Light and Shadow are determined to find a new basketball playing style and show other teams they are ready for new challenges.
6. Kuroko no Basket: Oshaberi Shiyokka – Special (Comedy Recap of Season 1)
As the heading suggests, Oshaberi Shiyokka is the comedy recap of Season One of the show.
7. Kuroko no Basket NG-shuu – added segments (omake)
Omake segment of the anime – in other words, one to five panels showing the bloopers and other fun content of the series.
8. Kuroko no Basket: Winter Cup – Kage to Hikari – first movie
Kuroko no Basket: Winter Cup Soushuuhen is a trilogy of movies released after or before every season of Kuroko no Basket. It mostly follows the big arcs of each season – Kage to Hikari follows the story of Aomine and Kuroko during the Seirin High and Tōō Academy match. The relationship is explored in the flashbacks.
9. Kuroko no Basket Season 2 (Episodes 26-41)
After learning a lot from the previous season, fresh and more determined Seirin High is trying to qualify for the Winter Cup. The “Iron Heart,” Kiyoshi Teppei, is back with the team, and his presence makes the team even stronger. Seirin High meets Yōsen High and their dynamic duo Murasakibara and Himuro Tatsuya, a new obstacle for Seirin to reach the final of the Winter Cup.
Before them, Seirin needs to beat Shutoku High, led by three-point master Midorima, and Aomine’s Tōō Academy. The epic battle of Light and Shadow against the Generation of Miracles brings excitement, and the Yōsen High match brings Kuroko and Kagami to the past.
10. Kuroko no Basket: Mouikkai Yarimasen ka – OVA – Episode 41.5
Another bonus episode with flashbacks comes in an OVA episode 41.5 called “Would You Mind Doing That Once More.” This particular flashback shows how Kuroko and Aomine first met.
11. Kuroko no Basket Season 2 (Episodes 42-50)
After defeating Aomine and Tōō Academy, the escalation of the season is upon the Seirin Team – they encounter Himuro Tatsuya and Murasakibara Atsushi and their team, Yōsen High. Seirin is facing another huge obstacle: a former childhood friend from America of Kagami and a former member of Generation of Miracles, Murasakibara, a talented center who doesn’t seem to care about basketball that much.
With the new motivation and “firepower,” Seirin High is trying to beat their last obstacle.
12. Kuroko no Basket: Oshaberi Demo Shimasen ka – Season Two recap
As the title suggests, this is another season recap of the Kuroko no Basket.

14. Kuroko no Basket: Winter Cup – Namida no Saki e – second movie
The second movie on this list comes after the second season of Kuroko no Basket. This film follows two characters, Kise and Murasakibara, and their point of view after losing their games against Seirin High.
15. Kuroko no Basket Season 3 (Episodes 51-75)
After the second Winter Cup movie, season three of the anime is the next in the watch order. The whole season is Seirin High going to the Winter Cup Final Four and facing Generation of Miracles members. After beating their hardest opponents, Seirin High must overcome the last obstacles. Kuroko and Kagami touch the members of Generation of Miracles like no one else did and watched them in the grand final of the Winter Cup with pride.
16. Kuroko no Basket: Saikou no Present Desu – OVA – Episode 75.5
Another OVA on this list is considered episode 75.5, just after the end of the Kuroko no Basket series. It follows the events after the series where both Generation of Miracles and Seirin High are preparing birthday parties for Kuroko. In the end, the two groups celebrate Kuroko to the fullest.
17. Kuroko no Basket: Oshaberi Shiyou ka – Season Three recap

18. Kuroko no Basket: Winter Cup – Tobira no Mukou – third movie
The final movie of the Winter Cup trilogy sees the lore behind the Zone and True Zone and the rivalry between Akashi and Midorima in the semifinal of the Winter Cup, while Kuroko and his teammates are mentally preparing for the Final of the Winter Cup.
19. Kuroko no Basket: Last Game – Fourth movie
The last movie of the Kuroko no Basket franchise is a direct adaptation of the sequel manga EXTRA GAME, and it follows the happenings after the Winter Cup finals. Kagami, Kuroko, and other members play in the last game against Team Jabberwock, an arrogant and really good streetball team from the United States.
The Americans play dirty and on another level which makes them overconfident. The Generation of Miracles, together with Kuroko and Kagami, compete to beat the American team and show them what teamwork is. Meanwhile, the boys are looking into the future, and Kagami gets the offer of a lifetime.
20. Kuroko no Basket: Last Game NG-shuu – added segments

21. Hiyoko no Basket Movie: Last Game 0401 – April’s Fool Day Special

Where to watch Kuroko no Basket?
Kuroko no Basket can be streamed on both Crunchyroll and Netflix, but no streaming service has all segments of the anime franchise, as not all have been released in the West.
Will there be more Kuroko no Basket episodes or movies?
Kuroko no Basket anime franchise is over, and it seems unlikely that more content will come in the future due to anime already covering all content that manga has produced. This however doesn’t mean that remake cannot be made, but it seems highly unlikely.
